BEST BEACHES IN SCOTLAND FOR A GETAWAY, WHEN THE LOCKDOWN IS LIFTED

While the abroad holidays might seem too far away, perhaps the nation-wide restrictions will be lifted earlier, which could give us a chance to discover more places nearby. If you haven’t been already, Scotland is a treasure waiting for you. Perfect for a weekend get-away, especially when the weather is just getting more nicer by the day. Today we will round up the best beaches to go see when we are allowed.

First up we got St Andrews, which is a university town on the east coast. It is mostly famous for its acclaimed golf courses and ruined castle, but also features a long stretch of beach to its north and a smaller cove to its south. Just take a look at the photo below, it speaks for itself.

Portobello Beach in Edinburgh is another jewel to point out ,as in the summer it draws up a large crowd from the city centre looking to get away from the busy streets. There’s even kayaking and sailing available on the spot. Even the surroundings of this beach are worth seeing- Georgian and Victorian architecture line the seafront, cafes and bars sit side by side on the promenade and a wonderful Victorian swimming pool with Turkish baths sits right by the sands. Overall, making this spot a perfect city break if you happen to be nearby.

Another dreamy location is Sandyhills, Dumfries and Galloway. Low tide offers views of near-endless sand, perfect for building castles or spotting crabs on the sea floor, and the cafe and small shop behind the beach are ideal for snacks and souvenirs. You will also love spotting deer in nearby Bainloch Deer Park.

Seilebost beach in the Isle of Harris is probably the jewel of this blog post. Jus imagine this: white sand and turquoise seas. On a beautiful sunny day won’t notice if you are really in the Caribbean or Scotland. However, as there is nothing nearby, make sure to bring your own snacks and water.
